Sound familiar?

Most poultry losses start quietly, and are noticed too late.

Feed left in one corner of the trough. A drinker leaking overnight. A few birds sitting while the rest move. By the time deaths are obvious, the first useful clues are gone.

  • Birds are dying and you do not know whether it is disease, heat or feed
  • Every farming group suggests a different medicine
  • You mix several drugs and hope one works
  • You have no records to give the vet when you call
  • Your workers do not know what to look for each morning
  • You are unsure what vaccination plan your flock needs
Every day of guessing costs money. A broiler has a short cycle, so lost growth is hard to recover. A layer must stay healthy through a long rearing and laying period. Early action and the right record are what protect your investment.

What you will be able to do

Move from panic to a clear plan.

Notice trouble early

Use a daily walk-through, a farm baseline and alert triggers agreed with your vet, so a small change gets acted on the same day.

Act in the first hour

Check water and air, record what changed, restrict movement and get help. No trying every medicine from a group chat.

Keep disease out

Build a workable farm entrance, separate new birds, clean and disinfect properly, and manage water and litter.

Plan vaccination

Understand how to plan protection and how to handle and give vaccines, then agree the programme with your veterinarian.

Recognise the major diseases

Coccidiosis, Newcastle, Gumboro, avian influenza, respiratory, bacterial, intestinal, skin and parasite problems.

Use medicines responsibly

Choose appropriate treatment, understand calculations and protect meat and egg consumers. Always under veterinary direction.

Questions

Before you buy

Does this cover broilers, layers and Noilers?

Yes. Chapter 4 sets out health priorities for chicks, broilers, Noilers and dual-purpose birds, pullets and laying hens, and Chapter 15 covers egg production losses.

Is it written for Nigerian conditions?

It is written for chicken production with particular attention to Nigerian and similar tropical farm conditions, including heat stress and NAFDAC checks for veterinary products.

Will it tell me what drug and dose to give?

No. Doses and withdrawal periods depend on the product label and your veterinarian's instructions, so no universal dose is given. The book teaches you how to choose appropriate treatment, understand the calculations and work safely with your vet.

Can it replace my veterinarian?

No. It is an educational guide. It helps you spot problems earlier and give your vet better information. Sudden deaths, severe breathing difficulty or spreading nervous signs need a veterinarian and the state veterinary service promptly.

I am a beginner. Can I follow it?

Yes. It starts with simple daily observation and builds up. Chapters 1 to 5 are the foundation; the disease chapters then help you organise a discussion with your vet.

How do I receive it?

You get a PDF through Selar right after payment. Read it on your phone or computer and print the record sheets for the farm.
